Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden title after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from spring of that year.

The win also means Medvedev has secured 21 championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the initial championship I won when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

His defensive play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led some to doubt if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform assertively, supported by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial professional title, took control to push for a decider.

The opponent defended 4 early-game chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a point at the net, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
